Soviet Southern Group of Forces medal 1991

It was an Official award. It is the medal awarded to the troops of the Soviet Army Group South (see the inscription on the medal) when they left Hungary in 1991. Soviet troops occupied Hungary in 1956 after crushing the Revolution.

The medal was awarded ti Joseph Nagy PhD, a professor of the University of Science of Szeged for his work of research in the fields of education and promotion of equal opportunities.

Awarded for HDF officers and sometimes to senior NCOs after 20-30 years of service as a special recognition.

One of the rarest Hungarian Military decorations. It is awarded exclusively to retired officers, therefore the name Golden Age for special merits in the field of supporting the active army and national defence.

Exceptionally rare combination as Mrs Tivadar Sandor received the Golden class of the Public Security Medal as a Police agent from the communist government in March 1956 (a copy of the "TOP SECRET" award documents is provided) and in October 1956 she joined the Hungarian Freedom Fighters and fought against the Soviet troops and their puppet government. She survived the aftermath started a scientific career, by 1987 she became a director of the National Geographic Institute and was awarded the 1956 Commemorative Medal in 1991 by the new democratic government.
